The Fellowship – Recovered 1244

150 150 Mark S

Alcoholics Anonymous refers to the fellowship as their group of people dedicated to a 12-step lifestyle which includes meetings and service work.  It’s not just about the meetings for them, it’s about the gathering of the people in the meetings. People who are there to support you and who need your support.  They will become a valued circle of friendship and fellowship in your recovery.

One of the most important benefits of friendship and fellowship in recovery is the positive support you will receive as you work through the challenges you may face after starting your recovery program. The Fellowship and a sponsor can guide you through the steps that will help you build up a support group of friends, as well as help you identify those unhealthy relationships and behaviors that you will need to avoid going forward.

Tonight, we talk about The Fellowship

Verse 27 – Everyone Is My Teacher

Good works leave no trace.
Good plans use no schemes.

Those living sober rescue others and reject no one.
This is called following the light.

We learn from the most unlikely teachers and influence the most unlikely students.

If we are not open-minded as to what we can receive from others, especially those who we feel have nothing to teach us, we will end up utterly lost.

This is essential wisdom.

During recovery, on the other hand, you’ll learn about inner peace and spiritual healing – and how serenity can help bring you calm as you cope with the ups and downs of life without drugs and/or alcohol.

Verse 26 – Living Undisturbed

Compassion makes life easy.
Surrender is the master of the restless.

Therefore, those living sober can participate in the activities of the world, undisturbed and without fear.

They can enjoy many material goods yet stay unattached.
As long as compassion and surrender continue, all of this is possible.

Higher Power – Recovered 1240

150 150 Mark S

Do you believe in God? What about a higher power? If you aren’t a religious person, the idea of a higher power being part of your recovery can make you feel hesitant about moving forward. But the truth is, following a higher power in recovery doesn’t have to be based on traditional or structured religion.

Still, starting a program of recovery can be difficult if you don’t have a firm understanding of what a higher power is. Finding a higher power in recovery takes faith, and having faith in something can take time and patience. Just like going to your first meeting, belief in a higher power is a decision you have to make for yourself.

Tonight, we talk about a Higher Power

So, here is

Verse 25 – Love

There was “something” containing everything before the world began.
Empty, complete, unchanging, tranquil, formless, ever-giving, and in constant motion, without effort.

This “something” permeates everything, accessible everywhere.
If I were to impose a name,
I would call it the “Dao,” the “Way,” or “Higher Power.”

This Way is functioning everywhere, ever-flowing and always returning.
Man follows Earth, Earth follows the Universe,
the Universe follows the Way.

The Way always follows its nature of Love.
These four are the great ones.
They naturally follow each other in a continual, harmonious dance o

Fear – Recovered 1236

150 150 Mark S

One thing that we alcoholics and addicts have in common when starting recovery is that we are afraid of the process.  Such fear is nothing to be ashamed of because it is natural. Our brains are hard-wired to become uncomfortable in the face of the unknown. Simply the anticipation of a potentially unpleasant or stressful circumstance causes the brain to go into flight or fight mode. And since fear is always about something that might happen, it is a reaction to an imagined, rather than a real, event.

Tonight, we talk about Fear.

Fear is always about loss; it is present only when there is desire. Fear arises when there is a conflict between what you want, need or love and what might happen if that want, need, or love is not fulfilled. Addressing fears in recovery is important because fears have the power to derail many of your recovery efforts.

Verse 23 – Living Without Fear

Be like nature: accept what is without fear.
A gale does not last all morning; it is only wind.
A cloudburst does not last all day; it is only rain.
Accept the actions of others just as we accept the actions of nature.
Practice the Way in all your affairs; then you can live without fear.
Do not fear success; then you can thrive in success.
Do not fear failure; then you can thrive in failure.
How is this possible?
By helping someone else overcome their fear.
