Living to Give

We are working our way through a book recently published by co-host Buddy C.
Find it here  https://amzn.to/3BW97rH
Verse 7 – Living to Give
The universe is everlasting.
Why do heaven and earth endure?
They do not live for themselves.
That is the reason they are everlasting.
Therefore, the sober one thinks of their needs last, yet finds their needs met with no self-effort on their part.
Their effort is in helping others; in turn, they are perfectly fulfilled.
Questions to ponder:
  • Your thoughts on the verse?
  • How has giving helped your program?
  • What service positions helped your program and why?
  • What service positions did not work for you and why?
  • How have your received by giving?
  • What service do you o outside your 12-step community?

Character Defects – Recovered 1204

150 150 Mark S

Character defects like resentment, fear, anger, and self-pity will weigh us down in recovery. We have to let go of these shortcomings to stay happy, healthy, and focused on our program.

Sometimes we might experience these emotions in small doses and as ordinary reactions to life challenges. And that’s okay. But when we carry these emotions around with us for longer than necessary, or when they become a habit, we gamble with our sobriety.

Tonight, we talk about our Character Defects

Sobriety Is for Anyone
Our Higher Power and creation treat all equally.
Sobriety is available for anyone who will do the work.
The principles of recovery seem empty of power.
Yet, they never fail to provide when we learn to surrender.

Sobriety Is for Anyone

Our Higher Power and creation treat all equally.

Sobriety is available for anyone who will do the work.

The principles of recovery seem empty of power.

Yet, they never fail to provide when we learn to surrender.

Tonight, we talk about how Sobriety is for Anyone.

Our very own Buddy C has recently published a book entitled

Powerless but not Helpless

A Recovery Interpretation of the Tao Te Ching

81 Essential Meditations That Can Change Your Life!

As Buddy wrote in his preface, “In Twelve-step recovery, finding a “God of our understanding” who helps with our addiction can be challenging. The process of surrender to a Power Greater than myself is difficult, at best, and impossible for some. In hindsight, I see that a lack of surrender kept me in a cycle of relapse for over six years. My difficulty was how to move from a belief that did not relieve my alcoholism to actions that did.”

Verse 5  – Sobriety Is for Anyone

Our Higher Power and creation treat all equally.

Sobriety is available for anyone who will do the work.

The principles of recovery seem empty of power.

Yet, they never fail to provide when we learn to surrender.

What does the phrase Sobriety is for Anyone mean to you?

Did you believe that sobriety was possible before the program?  Why?

Do you think Sobriety is for anyone?

Do you believe that creation treats anyone’s recovery equally?

How has “doing the work” helped your sobriety?

What are some principles of recovery that are most important to your program?

  • HONESTY
  • HOPE
  • FAITH
  • COURAGE
  • INTEGRITY
  • WILLINGNESS
  • HUMILITY
  • LOVE
  • DISCIPLINE
  • PATIENCE/PERSEVERANCE
  • AWARENESS
  • SERVICE

For you, how is surrender and the above principles related?
