Step 12 – Recovered 690

150 150 Mark S

The Twelfth Step sums up our Twelve Step recovery program as a lifetime undertaking based on the practice of spiritual principles and service to others with the same addiction or compulsion. Bill Wilson writes, “The joy of living is the theme of AA’s Twelfth Step, and action is its key word…Here we begin to practice all Twelve Steps of the program in our daily lives so that we and those about us may find emotional sobriety.” The transforming power of the Twelve Steps is now focused on the whole of life, and the recovering alcoholic moves to a larger, more encompassing dimension: the world of the spirit.

What does the term “spiritual awakening” mean to you?
Have you had a spiritual awakening? How are you different than before program?

How does working the steps lead you to a spiritual awakening?

What message do you carry to the alcoholic who still suffers? Why is this important?
What 12 step work do you do?
What are the principles that we practice in all our affairs?

On Tuesday, April 5, 2016, The Recovery Topic is Step 12. Tonight, the topic is Step 12
Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to alcoholics, and to practice these principles in all our affairs.

Let’s talk about this solution. Tap Speakpipe (especially if you are outside the Unites States) or call 1-734-288-7510 and answer the following question(s):

How does working the steps lead you to a spiritual awakening?
What message do you carry to the alcoholic who still suffers? Why is this important?
What 12 step work do you do?

Step 11 – Recovered 688

150 150 Mark S

Our sobriety depends on the maintenance of our spiritual condition. The powerlessness over our addictions that nearly destroyed us will return if we do not work on maintaining our contact with a Higher Power. In Step 11, we carry that goal further: we seek to improve the conscious contact with God that we have established in the previous Steps.

Prayer and meditation are our principal means of conscious contact with God. There is a direct linkage among self-examination, meditation, and prayer. We have found that a life of self reflection, that is Step 10, along with prayer and meditation, Step 11, can give us peace of mind which can stand firm in the face of difficult circumstances. We find that Alcohol is no longer necessary, even in the most difficult of circumstances.

How do you improve your conscious contact with God?

How do you know God’s will versus your will?

Step 10 – Recovered 686

150 150 Mark S

With Step 10, the Big Book tells us sanity has returned. “We will seldom be interested in liquor. If tempted, we recoil from it as from a hot flame. We react sanely and normally, and we will find that this has happened automatically.”

The process of looking at our character defects and our wrongs that we began in the Fourth Step continues with this Step. “We have entered the world of the Spirit. Our next Function is to grow in understanding and effectiveness.”

Now that we have cleaned up the mistakes of the past and made reparations for them, this Step tells us how to maintain the new state of serenity and freedom we have achieved. With Step 10, we monitor our character defects and their consequences through a daily inventory, taking prompt corrective action as needed to keep our slate clean and our character defects in check.

In other words,

In step 9, we cleaned up the wreckage of the past. And now in Step 10, we clean up the wreckage of the present.

Step 10 Worksheet

Let’s start with you ?,
What is the purpose of Step 10 for you?
What does Step 10 look like for you?

Why does the Step begin with “Continued to take…?”
Why is the process of taking an inventory as important as admitting when we are wrong?
What does the phrase “personal inventory” mean to you?
How does this differ from the moral inventory of Step 4?

What actions are required in this step for you?
What does it mean to be “wrong”? Examples?

What are your major character defects and how do they manifest?
What does the phrase “promptly admit it” mean to you? How do you know when you have taken this step?
